Blocking website is a common problem in office. Most of the blocked or blacklisted sites in office are about porn ,music and blogging. To increase the productivity company policies do not allow anybody to browse websites that are irrelevant and against their policy.I am a software consultant and In my office nothing is blocked, but in my wife’s office many sites are blocked such as orkut, gtalk, blogger and so on and so forth.. Countries like China, Saudi Arabia etc. routinely block many websites. Interestingly entire blogger.com and similar blog sites were banned in India in majority of offices. But i am lucky so far :)Last week I investigated and tested the various methods available for bypassing website access restrictions.
I would be discussing many methods to access the blocked websites but before you try one make sure you install the firefox browser, you can use IE also but i prefer using mozilla firefox browser because it is the fastest browser available on web world.
1. Using a public Proxy server - There are many free proxy servers out in the Web. In order to use these you have to change internet connection settings in Internet Explorer/Firefox or whatever browser you use. Full list is available here.
2. Using IP Address - Instead of host name you may type the ip-address and then try to open it.It should work.
There are many sites that are available which will help you in getting the ip-address of any website. Use hcidata http://www.hcidata.info/host2ip.cgi

Following is the screenshot that gives the ip address of my blog. Just type the ip address instead host name to get the access to my blog.
3. Using Online Translation Tools - You can access blocked or restricted websites or blogs by using Google language tools service as a proxy server. Basically, you have Google translate on your page. You should be able to access any site with this method.Google Translate Just replace my blog address with the website name you want to visit.Alternatively you may also visit Babel fish site.
4. Using Google Cache - Do a Google search for the site and then click on the cached link below the search results but it may not give you the updated information. But to an extent it may solve your purpose.
5. Using a URL redirection service- The services like tinyurl.com or snipurl.com can be used to access the blocked websites or blogs. These domain forward services sometimes work as the address in the the url box remain the redirect url and do not change to the banned site.
6. Using an Anonymizer - In this method you access a third party site which in turn routes your request to the required server.
7. Using Tor Distributed Proxy - Tor is an advanced proxy server using multiple anonymous servers for a single Web request. This requires an application to be downloaded and installed.
8. Your own proxy server - This is an advanced technique and is probably the best. This requires your own proxy server hosted either at your home or at a hosting service provider. You can enable SSL encryption and prevent any snooping on the content as well.
