Minimize Eyestrain while blogging or using computer

Bloggers spend a lot of time while browsing on web and rarely take care of their health. The most important part of the body is often neglected. Yes, you guessed correctly. I am indeed talking about “Eyes”. Many of us work for hours each day in front of computers and it becomes extremely important to establish conditions that minimize stress to our eyes while blogging. Simple tips and precautions can make your eyes completely safe.

Adjust the brightness and contrast of your computer screen.
Check the display settings of your computer and adjust the brightness of the screen, same as your work environment. The display should not be too dark and too bright.
You can perform a simple check. Look at the white background of IE Blank web page. If it looks like a light source, it's too bright. If it seems dull and gray, it may be too dark.
Take frequent breaks.
In order to avoid eye strain take frequent breaks during your computer work day. You may also wash your eyes with cold water.

Adjust your workstation and chair to the correct height.
Place your computer in such a way that the screen sits slightly below your eye level. Adjust your workstation and chair to the correct height to avoid any eye strain. Make sure that your computer screen is at the distance of 20 to 26 inches from your eyes.

Upgrade your computer display.
Most of us still use old tube-style monitor (CRT Display) which causes flicker of images on the screen more often, causing eye strain. It is highly recommended to replace your old CRT display with LCD screens, like in laptops. LCD’s have anti-reflective surface which causes less strain.

Blink more often to refresh your eyes.
According to studies, People blink less frequently - about five times less than normally while working on computer. Blinking is very important as it rewets your eyes to avoid dryness and irritation. If the problem still persists you can use normal eye drops or artificial teardrops to rewet your eyes. If the dryness still there then you must consult your doctor.

Check the lighting and reduce glare.
Bright lighting and too much glare can also cause strain in your eyes. Just sit at your computer with the monitor off and check if the reflected light and images are coming to your computer display or nearby to it. Note any intense glare like of sunlight or any electricity bulb, et cetera. Adjustments can be made around the computer to minimize glare and reflections. You can also place a anti-glare screen on the computer monitor to reduce glare. Use drapes to block the sunlight coming directly at your computer display.

Modify your workstation.
Place all the reference materials nearby your computer. This will minimize head and eye movements and focusing changes which generally causes eyestrain.
