Opening Multiple Websites in Firefox Using Command Line

Most of us open our favourite websites or blogs daily in firefox.I open two session of firefox. In one session I read my favourite blogs and in other I follow the technology news. But it is tedious to open again and again the same websites and blogs manually. There is actually an easy way to do it using firefox's command line interface. You need to create a batch file (*.bat) and save it on your desktop.

firefox.exe "url of site1" "url of site2" "url of site3" and so on.

The above command will open the websites site1, site2 and site3 in three different tabs of a single firefox window. You may save the above command in a .bat file on the desktop so that double clicking opens it up directly.See the examples : Example-1 , Example-2. Download the file and right click and Edit. You can change the location of firefox.exe file (if there is any change in location).Add your favourite websites in it and save the file.To test the hack just double-click the batch file and enjoy blogging!!!!!

Surprisingly, the above does not work with IE 7.0 which too supports tabbed browsing. Hopefully its coming in IE 8.0.
