Google Maps for Mobile adds 'My Location' feature

Google maps on mobile have been of great help for all of us. One can find directions easily on his or her mobile easily provided that the mobile is GPRS enabled. Most of the times it is very difficult to use for example say you are going for an official business conclave to New York for the first time. Assume that you are standing near by Bus-stop and you want to go to a market to purchase pen drive. You then quickly take out your mobile phone to find the location of Best Buy store. But the problem is that how to find it out what is your current location. You ask to so many people but all in vein the Google Map is not taking the exact location of yours.Google has recently released its beta version of "Google Maps with My Location".You can see your current location on the map automatically, with or without GPS as soon as you press "0” the map will show the blue dot which signifies your current location.

If you have a GPS-enabled device, this blue dot corresponds to your GPS location. If you do not have a GPS-enabled phone, you will see the blue dot surrounded by a light blue circle to indicate uncertainty about your location.

The My Location feature takes information broadcast from mobile towers which is situated near you to approximate your current location on the map - it's not GPS, but it comes pretty close (approximately 1000m close, on average).

The My Location feature is available for most web-enabled mobile phones, including Java, BlackBerry, Windows Mobile, and Nokia/Symbian devices.According to Webware "Google's My Location feature will compete with the likes of Navizon and SkyHook Wireless, which offer mobile positioning systems based on Wi-Fi technology, rather than GPS or cell tower location."
