When do extended warranty starts ?

I am tech savvy and places a lot of order online to purchase the gadgets.Recently I ordered a HP laptop online, I also purchased the $225 three-year Extended Service Plan from them. The fee pertaining to the laptop along with the extended service plan was promptly charged to my credit card.I was shocked when i saw the effetive start date of my service plan. The effective date was the date that I placed my orderand not the day that the laptop was shipped.I waited for no time and called and was told to call back for a correction when the laptop was delivered.I received the laptop after 25 days and i called them back again but i got the answer what i was not expecting from them.Customer service executive said they could not change the coverage date.

Even HP officials acknowledge that my laptops's warranty coverage should not have started the day i ordered the laptop; normally coverage begins when a product actually ships, in order to protect it while it's in transit. After a lot of hiccups and calls finally, the company changed the warranty start date to the day that my laptop was delivered.

HP is not alone in starting warranty coverage when a PC ordered by phone or online ships: Dell says its policy is essentially the same. Sony, however, says its warranty coverage begins when the customer receives the PC. In any event, if you notice a discrepancy in coverage dates, be sure to insist on speaking with a cuctomer executive, after all you cannot give hard earned dollars just for free.
