At the All Things Digital conference on Tuesday Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer introduced quick glimpse of Windows 7, the successor to Windows Vista. There were two features that were never introduced in previous versions of Windows, system-wide multitouch and a floating, pie-shaped taskbar menu.Multitouch device is comparable to the iPhone and indeed the Windows 7 interface has all the same tricks that iphone posesses.

The new taskbar floats as a pie shaped menu and is easier to access and use. It appears as a pop up wherever your cursor or finger happens to be. Well as far as my point of view is concerned customers want — namely speed and stability in new OS rather than sexy user interface or design. I think Microsoft is seriously misjudging what customer wants. It could be a possibility.
There were also some speculations that Microsoft is creating a new kernel for Windows 7.A post on the Windows Vista blog says, “contrary to some speculation, Microsoft is not creating a new kernel for Windows 7.” Instead the company plans to refine “the kernel architecture and componentization model introduced in Windows Vista.” Microsoft has yet to set a date for Windows 7, may be it can take another two years from now to enter in market. Keep your fingure crossed. I am eagerly waiting for Windows 7. But why they have named it Windows 7 and not 8,9 or something they were following in their earlier series (98,2000).
